January 29, 2008 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results on a man found dead in his home at 1818 Cherryhurst about 11:30 a.m. on Monday (Jan. 28).

It is believed the victim, Alfred David Carpenter, 65, committed suicide, possibly by ingesting or inhaling cyanide.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant L.A. Flores and Senior Police Officer P.J. Guerrero reported:

Officers responded to Mr. Carpenter’s home after a family member asked officers to check on his welfare because he (Carpenter) had not been heard from for several weeks. Officers located Carpenter deceased on the living room couch.

When investigators arrived and secured the scene, they saw hazardous chemicals inside the home and called the Houston Fire Department to remove the chemicals. One chemical was labeled and believed to be potassium cyanide, while the other remains unknown pending tests.
