Fatal Shooting at 15301 Gulf Freeway

July 21, 2008 - The fatal shooting of a man at 15301 Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday (July 20) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The deceased male, Jose Rogelio Alanis, 38, of McAllen, Texas, suffered one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Officer J. Rodriguez reported:

Shortly after 9 p.m., management asked a patron (Alanis) of Sugar's Gentlemen's Club to leave for acting disorderly towards other patrons. Soon after Alanis was escorted outside, another patron approached club employee Travis Bohannon, 27, and advised a male was puncturing tires of vehicles in the parking lot of the club. Bohannon, who has a concealed handgun license, and another employee went outside in an attempt to assess damage to vehicles and detain the male. As Bohannon approached him, Alanis raised a knife in Bohannon's direction and advanced toward him. At that time, Bohannon pulled a pistol and shot Alanis. Paramedics were called and transported him to the hospital.
