Two Males Sought for Questioning in Shooting at 6969 South Loop East

Andrew GarciaBruno AvilesJuly 22, 2008 - Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating two persons of interest wanted for questioning in the shooting of an elderly woman at 6969 South Loop East about 1:20 p.m. on Monday (July 21).

Bruno Aviles (H/m, DOB: 8-20-90) and Andrew Garcia (H/m, DOB: 11-29-87) are wanted for questioning in the shooting of Velia Ortega, 78, of Houston. Ms. Ortega suffered at least one gunshot wound and is reported in critical, but stable condition at Ben Taub General Hospital. Photos of Aviles and Garcia are attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzales, Senior Police Officers R. Chappell and R. Moreno, and Officer J. Sosa reported:

Ms. Ortega was visiting family members at the Plum Creek apartments at 6969 South Loop East when suspects drove by looking for the family members. The suspects had a dispute with Ms. Ortega’s family regarding a vehicle. The suspects fired several shots into the apartment and hit Ms. Ortega as she was inside watching television.
