Fatal Traffic Accident at 9600 Richmond

July 29, 2008 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested following a vehicle pursuit that resulted in the death of a motorist in the 9600 block of Richmond about 9:50 a.m. on Monday (July 28).

The suspect, Danny M. Shipp (b/m, DOB: 3-8-70), faces a charge of felony murder. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with unknown injuries.

The motorist, Wesley Gustafson, 75, of Houston, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. C. Francois and Officers A. Taylor and R. Saenz reported:

Memorial Village Police patrol officers identified a burglary suspect (Shipp), driving a blue Chevrolet Trail Blazer near the intersection of Piney Point and Williamsberg. Memorial Village PD officers attempted to stop the vehicle but Shipp began driving at a high rate of speed. Memorial Village PD officers pursued Shipp westbound on Richmond and were approaching the intersection of Tanglewilde when Shipp collided with a Buick Rainmaker, driven by Mr. Gustafson. Both men were then taken to the hospital.
