Fatal Stabbing at 8600 South Course #2410

June 16, 2008 - Capital murder charges are pending against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a woman at 8600 South Course #2410 about 12:15 a.m. today.

The suspect, Christopher Eugene Johnson (b/m, DOB: 9/30/82), faces charges in the killing of Carvillia Evans, 23, of Houston. Ms. Evans suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants L. Flores, M. McStravick, P. LeBlanc and Senior Police Officer J. Selvera and Officer D. Gunter reported:

HPD officers responded to a call of a deceased woman at 8600 South Course #2410 and found Ms. Evans inside the apartment. Her three-year-old daughter and vehicle were missing from the scene and investigators initiated a general broadcast over police radios with the vehicle’s description. During the investigation, homicide investigators received a phone call from a friend of the suspect stating Johnson had just dropped off the baby at the caller’s residence. Investigators arrived and took custody of the baby and called for an ambulance to check her health. HFD paramedics determined the baby was okay and she was then placed in the custody of her grandmother.

Alert and determined patrol officers later located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Johnson then led officers on a short foot chase, but was arrested about 2:10 a.m. in the 11400 block of Elmcroft.

Investigators learned through prior incident reports generated by Ms. Evans against Johnson (Evans’ former boyfriend and the baby’s father), that he made threats against her and the child in the recent past.
