Update on Fatal Shooting at 8800 Jensen

March 27, 2008 - Houston police have learned the identity of a man fatally shot at 8800 Jensen about 1:25 a.m. on Monday (Mar. 24).

The victim, Alvaro Obregon-Ortiz, 34, of Houston, suffered a shotgun wound and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants C.E. Elliott, M. McStravick, P. LeBlanc and Officer J.C. Bonaby reported:

Mr. Ortiz had been with family members on Easter Sunday night and then stopped at a bar he was known to frequent, the La Paraiso Club at 8800 Jensen. While in his truck in the club’s parking lot, Ortiz was struck through his driver’s side window by birdshot from a shotgun. He managed to put the truck in reverse and then struck another parked vehicle. As a result, the initial call to police was a traffic accident. Arriving officers determined Ortiz’s injuries were caused by a gunshot.
