Suspect Charged in Murder, Robbery Investigations

May 30, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 8400 Broadway about 4:45 a.m on Thursday (May 29) and the robbery and shooting of a woman at 10150 Almeda Genoa earlier that morning.

The suspect, Justin Patrick Nichols (H/m, DOB: 6-25-87), is charged with murder and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in the 230th State District Court.

The deceased victim, John Huey Edmonds, 25, of Houston, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The robbery victim, April Jean Dukes, 22 , of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the pelvis and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was treated for her injury.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. McStravick, M. Cruz, and L. Flores and Officer C. Sturdivant reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at the Woodlen Place Apartments and found Mr. Edmonds shot. A vehicle fitting the description of the suspect’s vehicle (a red Pontiac Grand Am) was seen by a patrol officer leaving the complex. After a vehicle pursuit, Nichols, who was believed to be involved in the shooting, was taken into custody.

Investigators determined the Pontiac Grand Am, driven by suspect Nichols, was involved in the robbery shooting of Ms. Dukes at 10150 Almeda Genoa earlier in the morning.
