October 27, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested following a shooting incident that resulted in the aggravated assault of an on-duty HPD officer and wounding of two males at 6556 Peerless about 1:45 a.m. on October 15.

The suspect, Erick Deshaun Bacon (b/m, DOB: 10-5-85), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 248th State District Court. He is accused in the shooting of Walter Christopher Warner, 35, of Houston. Warner suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition. A second wounded male was also transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.

Officer R.C. Ford, who discharged his duty weapon, is assigned to the South Central Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in September 2007. Officer Ford was not injured in the incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. E. Roberts and Senior Police Officer R. A. Moreno reported:

Officer Ford responded to a shooting call at DW’s Club Reminisce and found Mr. Warner lying in the front doorway of the nightclub. Further investigation determined Warner and an unknown male got into an argument before the shooting. Witnesses pointed Officer Ford to the roadway and told him the suspects were getting away. As Officer Ford headed towards the fleeing vehicles, he saw an unknown male in the middle of the parking lot. The male drew a gun from his waistband and fired toward the cars on the street. Officer Ford then identified himself as a police officer and ordered the male to drop his weapon. The male then turned and pointed his weapon toward Officer Ford. Fearing for his life, Officer Ford fired his duty weapon at the male and struck him. The male was transported to an area hospital and charged with aggravated assault of a police officer.
