Suspect Arrested, Charged in June Fatal Shooting at 4700 Park Drive

October 31, 2008 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of a woman at 4700 Park Drive about 3 a.m. on June 27.

The suspect, Ignacio Ruiz (H/m, DOB: 9-8-88), was arrested on Thursday (Oct. 30) and charged with murder in the 228th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Rigoberto Careaga, 22, of Houston, and the wounding of a female. Mr. Careaga suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The female suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. Doctors stated she should make a full recovery.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.J. Brooks and Senior Police Officer M.F. Waters II reported:

The victims were shot while in the 4700 block of Park Drive after an argument with the suspect who then fled the scene in a four-door black midsize vehicle.

Further investigation developed Ruiz as the shooter in this incident. After he arrived for questioning at HPD Headquarters on Thursday, he was placed into custody and subsequently charged.
