Suspect Arrested in Fatal Stabbing at 8650 Pitner

September 02, 2008 - A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal stabbing of a man at 8650 Pitner about 12 a.m. on August 25, has been arrested.

The suspect, Cruz Crisoforo Chavez (H/m, DOB: 11-24-76), charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court, turned himself in to Homicide investigators on Saturday (August 30). Chavez is accused in the killing of Jose Lopez-Rubio, 25, who suffered a stab wound to his right rib cage area. Rubio was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, in critical condition, where he underwent surgery. Doctors pronounced him dead later that same morning.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzalez and Officer J. Sosa reported:

A witness reported seeing Lopez-Rubio and Chavez involved in a physical altercation near the garbage dumpsters and soon after, Lopez-Rubio stumble from the location. Chavez went to his apartment to retrieve a knife, which he used to stab the victim. Chavez was then seen going to another apartment within the complex while Lopez-Rubio went to the front of the complex, where HFD paramedics found him.
