Officers from Around the State to Assist in Recovery Efforts

September 19, 2008 - Texas police departments from across the state have sent more than 100 police officers to assist in Hurricane Ike’s recovery and relief efforts. For example, officers from Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Mansfield, Denton, New Braunfels and other agencies will assist the Houston Police Department to get Houston moving again.

The contingent of officers, consisting of 50 officers from Austin, 15 from Dallas, 20 from Fort Worth, 25 from San Antonio, and 6 from Mansfield arrived in Houston yesterday (Sept. 18). They will be paired with Houston police officers and assigned to patrol areas affected most heavily by the recent storm. The officers will be in town for approximately three weeks until the city is able to return to more normal operations.

Mayor Bill White and Police Chief Harold Hurtt welcomed the officers at the Houston Police Academy and stated they are very appreciative of the support extended by our fellow Texans and offered sincere thanks on behalf of all Houstonians.
