Accidental Shooting at 802 Blanchard Hill Lane

August 13, 2009 - The fatal shooting of a juvenile male at 802 Blanchard Hill Lane about 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 12) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury. 

The victim, 11, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

Ronnie Dewayne Brown (b/m, DOB: 11-17-85) faces a charge of tampering with evidence in relation to the shooting and is currently in custody. 

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. M. Cegielski and Officer J. T. Barringer reported: 

According to witnesses, the victim was upstairs with his two brothers.  At some point, the victim’s 13-year-old brother found a gun and was playing with it in an upstairs room.  The gun accidentally discharged and struck the 11-year-old.  The mother of the three children and her boyfriend (Brown) were home at the time of the shooting. 

The investigation is continuing.
