Fatal Traffic Accident at 13000 South Freeway

August 19, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 13000 block of the South Freeway (State Highway 288 South) about 3:40 a.m. today (Aug. 19).

The male victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer A. Alaniz reported:

The victim was driving his blue Chevrolet pickup northbound on the South Freeway when his truck veered to the right across the northbound lanes and struck the Almeda Genoa exit sign before hitting the guardrail. The truck then damaged several feet of the guardrail and came to a rest in the grassy median, next to the Almeda Genoa exit ramp. The driver was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No other vehicles were involved in this incident.

The investigation is continuing.
