Investigation Into Child's Death Following Incident at 9393 Tidwell

February 17, 2008 - Houston police are investigating the death of a child found unresponsive with severe wounds to his body at 9393 Tidwell #1222 about 10 a.m. on January 22.

The victim, Cameron Evins, two years of age, suffered multiple head wounds and blunt trauma and died of his injuries on February 13 at Texas Children’s Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.E. Elliott and Officer A. Mares reported:

An officer was dispatched to LBJ Hospital on January 22 regarding an assault in which a young boy had sustained multiple serious injuries.  During the course of the officer’s hospital investigation, she learned that Cameron was unresponsive and had suffered severe trauma to his head and his abdomen in an incident at his apartment at 9393 Tidwell.  Hospital staff decided Cameron needed to be transported to Ben Taub General Hospital due to the extent of his injuries and for further evaluation.  Cameron remained at Ben Taub for several days and was eventually transported to Texas Children’s Hospital.

Homicide investigators learned on February 13 that Cameron had died at Texas Children’s.

At this time, investigators are interested in speaking with Cameron’s mother’s boyfriend, Damon Deshawn Polk, 28, as a person of interest in this case.
