Female Suspect Sought For Firing Shots at HPD Officer at 800 Dennis

February 25, 2008 - Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a female suspect who fired gunshots at a uniformed Houston police officer at 800 Dennis about 2 a.m. today.

The suspect is described only as a black female, 19 to 23 years of age, seen fleeing in a black or gray, four-door Buick.

The officer fired upon, Officer S. De La Cruz of the Westside Patrol Division, was not injured.  He returned fire at the suspect’s vehicle as it fled the location.  De La Cruz was sworn in as an officer in June 2002.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Williams, Senior Police Officer B.D. Evans and Officer R.T. Figueroa reported:

Officers working an extra job at the Swivel Club at 2621 Milam were attempting to clear club patrons from the street and parking lot when Officer De La Cruz heard a female yelling something from inside a black or gray, four-door Buick backing out of the parking lot.  As the vehicle backed up onto Dennis Street, the female began to fire several shots at Officer De La Cruz.  The officer took cover behind a parked car and returned fire at the suspect.  The vehicle continued to back up on Dennis until it was stopped by a vehicle that had pulled up behind it.  The suspect’s vehicle then headed west on Dennis and turned and headed in the wrong direction on Milam.

Anyone with information on the suspect in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
