Investigation into Infant's Death at 7000 Fonvilla Street #2502

January 23, 2008 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of an infant found at 7000 Fonvilla Street #2502 about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 22).

The victim, Benjamin Rendon, five months old, of Houston, was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Senior Police Officer S. J. Anderson reported:

Baby Benjamin was left in the care of a babysitter while his parents went to work. The babysitter fed him and then laid him down to sleep on his back, while still wearing his bib, at about 11:30 a.m. The babysitter did not check on Benjamin again until about 5:30 p.m. when she found him lying face down and unresponsive. The bib had flipped up and covered his face. The babysitter then called Benjamin’s father, who rushed to the apartment and then took the baby to the hospital.

Further investigation found no apparent signs of trauma, physical abuse or neglect to the child.

Baby Benjamin’s cause of death will be determined by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
