Fatal Traffic Accident at 5300 South Lake Houston Parkway

January 26, 2008 - One of two infants born premature to a woman following a traffic accident at 5300 South Lake Houston Parkway about 7:45 p.m. on January 3 has died.

The victim, a newborn boy, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital on Sunday (Jan. 25) after being on life-support since his premature delivery following the accident.  The boy’s twin brother remains on life-support at the hospital and doctors do not expect him to survive.  The baby’s mother, Soeung Burleson, was critically injured and remains in the hospital.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R.L. Gaines and Officer A.A. Adejumo reported:

Ms. Burleson was the front seat passenger of a 1996 Toyota Camry as it traveled north on South Lake Houston Parkway.  The driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe, traveling south on the same road, attempted a left turn into a private driveway and, in so doing, turned into and struck the Camry.  The impact critically injured Ms. Burleson and doctors performed an emergency premature delivery of her twin boys.

The investigation is continuing.  No charges have been filed at this time.
