Investigation into Male's Death at 61 Riesner

July 21, 2009 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a male prisoner at 61 Riesner about 1 p.m. last Wednesday (July 15). 

The prisoner, Lee Roy Johns (b/m, DOB: 9-12-52), was found unresponsive and was transported to Christus St Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. H. Roberts and Senior Police Officer R. Cervantes reported: 

HPD jailers conducted a routine cell check and found Mr. Johns unconscious and unresponsive.  Further checking determined Johns had no pulse and was not breathing.  Jail medical staff were summoned immediately and performed first aid until HFD paramedics arrived and transported Johns to the hospital. 

Further investigation determined Johns had been arrested earlier that morning (July 15) for driving while intoxicated and had a prior medical history. 

This case is also being investigated by the HPD Internal Affairs Division.
