Investigation Into Shooting at 7700 Jester

June 1, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of a man at 7700 Jester about 9:10 p.m. Friday (May 29).

The victim, Johnie Mackey, 72, of Houston, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Francisco Garcia also suffered a gunshot wound to his foot.

HPD Homicide Division Officers M. Khan and T. Pool reported:

A group of men, including Mr. Mackey and Mr. Garcia, were talking and drinking beer in a parking lot after a game. Mackey began picking up trash in the lot when two black males approached the group and attempted to rob them at gunpoint. One of the men ran away when gunfire erupted, Mackey and Garcia were shot. Mackey suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Garcia suffered a gunshot wound to the foot and fragment burns on his leg, and was treated and released from St. Joseph Hospital.

The suspects, described only as two black males in their early twenties, fled on foot in an unknown direction.
