Fatal Shooting at 1100 Langwick

June 8, 2009 - The fatal shooting of a burglary suspect in the 1100 block of Langwick about 6:15 a.m. on Saturday (June 6) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The male suspect, Darryl Milton Franklin Jr. (b/m/, DOB: 3-15-72), suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The male shooter was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant L. A. Flores and Senior Police Officer P. J. Guerrero reported:

The shooter and his wife approached Franklin as he was breaking into their vehicle, physically removed him from the vehicle and told him to leave before calling police.  Franklin then left their car and attempted to break into several other cars in the immediate area and then attempted to carjack another resident of the apartment complex, who ran back to his apartment.  The shooter and his wife again called police as they approached the suspect a second time.  Franklin then jumped on the shooter, got into a struggle, and at one point, the shooter’s wife struck Franklin with her fist several times to get him off her husband.  The shooter, fearing for the safety of his life and his wife, drew weapon, fired and struck Franklin in the chest.  The shooter and his wife then called for medical assistance and gave Franklin first aid.

Further investigation determined the shooter has a concealed handgun license.
