Investigation into Male's Death at 1401 St. Joseph Parkway

March 2, 2009 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a male who became unresponsive as a police officer was taking him to the Harris County Jail downtown about 2:20 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 28). 

The name of the deceased male, 57, is pending notification to his family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office. 

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and Officer D. Shorten reported: 

The male was being transported to the Harris County jail by an HPD patrol officer following the male's release from Ben Taub General Hospital.  Upon arrival to the county jail, the male became ill and unresponsive.  He was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Joseph Hospital (1401 St. Joseph Parkway) where he was later pronounced dead.   

As is customary in in-custody deaths in the city limits, the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident.
