Investigation into Shooting at 7600 Dashwood

March 30, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of a man at 7600 Dashwood about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday (March 29).

The victim, Joel Martinez, 22, of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Dillingham and Senior Police Officer R. Swainson reported:

Officers responded to a call of a drive-by shooting and found the victim in the parking lot with a head wound. Initially, witnesses stated Martinez was beaten by a group of males.  After being taken to the hospital, it was determined Martinez had been shot.

Further investigation determined Martinez had left a nearby club, Kahula Disco, with two females when he was approached by a large group of males.  Martinez and the males got into a physical fight and, at some point, Martinez was shot.  The suspects, described only as Hispanic males, then fled the scene in an unknown direction and are still at large.
