Armed Suspect Shot by Officer at 11685 Alief-Clodine

May 18, 2009 - Charges have been filed against an armed suspect wounded by a Houston police officer at 11685 Alief-Clodine about 7:30 p.m. on Friday (May 15).

The suspect, Emmanuel Afam Ajiodo (b/m, DOB: 11/4/79), is in custody and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in the 263rd State District Court and assault on a family member in Harris County Criminal Court #2.  He was treated and released from Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Officer B.W. Bailey, who discharged his duty weapon, is assigned to the Westside Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in January 2006.  Officer Bailey was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R.D. Chandler and Senior Police Officer L.L. Lovelace reported:

Houston police officers responded to a report of an assault in-progress call and made contact with the suspect (Ajiodo), who was standing next to his vehicle when they arrived.  The officers attempted to obtain information from Ajiodo, who seemed agitated and threatened the officers.  He then entered the passenger side of his vehicle and closed the door.  When one officer attempted to remove Ajiodo from the vehicle, Ajiodo reached under the driver’s seat, removed a 9 mm automatic pistol and pointed in the direction of the officers.  At that time, Officer Bailey, discharged his weapon one time.  Ajiodo remained barricaded in his vehicle and HPD SWAT officers were called.  After a brief standoff, at 11:20 p.m., Ajiodo exited the vehicle.  He was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
