Investigation Into Fatal Shooting at 8500 Norton Drive

October 5 , 2009 - The fatal shooting of a burglary suspect at 8500 Norton Drive about 9:30 a.m. today will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The unknown male suspect suffered a gunshot wound to the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The male shooter has not been charged at this time and was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. E. Elliott, Senior Police Officer A. Mares and Officer L. Hunt reported:

The suspect was burglarizing a residence in the 8500 block of Norton when the homeowner (shooter) returned to his house. When the homeowner went inside, he found the lights on and several personal items in piles throughout the house. The homeowner then got a shotgun from a bedroom and searched the house. When the homeowner tried to open a closet door, the suspect jumped out at him. The homeowner then fired several times and struck the suspect.
