Fatal Traffic Accident at 8300 Gulf Freeway

October 27, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 8300 block of the Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 4 a.m. today.

The female victim, a pedestrian, age unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer D. Brown reported:

According to witnesses, a female was walking on the Gulf Freeway mainlanes. The driver of a brown Nissan Quest was traveling northbound on the Gulf Freeway when the vehicle in front of the Nissan suddenly swerved to avoid hitting the female. The Nissan was unable to avoid the female and struck her with the left front end of the vehicle. The driver of the Nissan then pulled over and called emergency personnel.

The investigation is continuing.
