Two Suspects Arrested in Incident at 5400 Doliver

September 8, 2009 - Charges are pending against two suspects in the attempted robbery of a uniformed off-duty Houston police officer at 5400 Doliver about 1:20 a.m. today (Sept. 8).

Two males were taken into custody and face charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and attempted capital murder of a peace officer.

Lieutenant R. E. Hendricks, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident. Lieutenant Hendricks is assigned to the Robbery Division and was sworn in as an officer in May 1980.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. E. Roberts and Senior Police Officer R. A. Moreno reported:

Lieutenant Hendricks was working an approved extra job in his HPD uniform when two suspects exited an SUV and approached him at gunpoint and attempted to rob him. One of the suspects and the lieutenant exchanged gunfire. Both suspects were struck and transported to an area hospital. The suspects’ weapon and Lieutenant’s property were recovered at the location.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings within the city limits, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
