Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting at 10727 Lumber Ridge Trail

September 8, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 10727 Lumber Ridge Trail about 9:25 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 4).

The suspect, Sandra Martinez (H/f, DOB: 8-9-73), is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court. She is accused in the killing of her husband, Cesar Barrera, of the above address. Mr Barrera suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. L. Meeler and Officer R. P. Houghton reported:

Mr. Barrera and Martinez got into an argument inside their house. Barrera then went to bed. Martinez then went to the closet, got Barrera’s handgun and shot him as he was lying in bed. Martinez was taken into custody at the scene and admitted to her involvement in Barrera’s death.
