Suspect Arrested in Fatal Traffic Accident at 3100 West Loop North
August 2, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 3100 West Loop North about 6:25 a.m. on Saturday (July 31).
The suspect, Rogelio Velazquez Morin (H/m, DOB: 8-9-72), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 179th State District Court.
The identity of the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Calley and Officer E. Simpson reported:
Velazquez was driving a black GMC pickup truck northbound on the West Loop and failed to stay in his lane. The GMC then struck a tractor trailer truck, which had partially lost its load, and was parked on the shoulder of the West Loop. The front passenger of the GMC (victim) was killed. Velazquez was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital for his injuries and then taken into custody.
