Suspect Arrested, Charged in Death at 3420 West Orem


December 3, 2010 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the death of a man found at 3420 West Orem about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28.


Percy Hines III (b/m, DOB: 12-1-64) is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court. A photo of the suspect is attached to this news release. He is accused in the death of John Chime, 41, of Houston, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants B. Williams, W. Bush, B. Roberts, Senior Police Officer R. Chappell and Officers M. Khan and C. Sturdivant reported:

A customer of the convenience store at the above location notified the owner that a male (Mr. Chime), who appeared to be deceased, was inside a tan Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck in the parking lot. Further investigation and witness statements determined the truck had been parked in the lot since Friday (Nov. 26). It was later learned that Chime had been shot at another location sometime between late Monday, Nov. 22, and early Tuesday, Nov. 23. Chime's body and the truck were then driven to the above address where they were later discovered.

Further investigation led to the identification of Hines as a suspect and he was subsequently arrested and charged on Thursday, Dec. 2. He and the victim were acquaintances.
