Robbery Suspect Shot, Another Arrested in Incident at 7548 Canal

December 20, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a robbery suspect arrested in an incident that resulted in the fatal shooting of another suspect at 7548 Canal about 11 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 18).

Corey Anthony Taylor (b/m, DOB: 12-20-80) is charged with robbery with bodily injury in the 182nd State District Court.  A second suspect, Elton Guidry (b/m, DOB: 12-31-87), suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.  A photo of Taylor is attached to this news release.

A business owner, 32, who shot suspect Guidry, was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T.F. Hanslik and Senior Police Officer R.A. Swainson reported:

A business owner was returning to his store at the above location with a large amount of cash in a bag.  The driver pulled up to the location in a black vehicle and one suspect exited the vehicle.  The suspect struck the storeowner in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.  The suspect then took the bag with cash from the storeowner and ran to the waiting vehicle with the other suspect in it.  The storeowner regained his feet and fearing that the suspect was armed, fired at the vehicle with a pistol.  The bullets struck the suspect vehicle but the vehicle continued traveling from the scene.  A short time later, a vehicle matching the description of the suspects' vehicle pulled up to the Ben Taub Hospital Emergency Room.  There, one suspect (Taylor) exited the vehicle and enlisted help from an ambulance crew for an occupant (Guidry) of the vehicle who was suffering from bullet wounds.  Guidry died a short time later from his wounds.

Further investigation revealed that Guidry, Taylor and possibly a third suspect had planned and committed the robbery of the storeowner.  Taylor was taken into custody.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
