Fatal Traffic Accident at 4200 Eastex Freeway


July 6, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 4200 block of the Eastex Freeway  (North U.S. Highway 59) about 2 a.m. today (July 6).


The male victim, 26, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.


HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer K. Will reported:


A white Volvo tractor-trailer was driving on the Eastex Freeway feeder road underneath the 610 Loop when the driver attempted to intentionally drive the vehicle into a freeway column.  A witness stated that just before the truck wheels hit the curb, the driver jumped out of the cab.  The driver hit his head on the ground and was knocked unconcious.  The driver was later pronounced dead.


The truck continued moving forward until the witness ran up on the truck, climbed inside and stopped the vehicle. 


Information was given to investigating officers that the victim was attempting to stage an accident and file a fraudulent claim with his insurance company. 


The investigation is continuing.
