Investigation into Shooting Incident at 2407 Milam

November 12, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in an incident in which a Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constable discharged his duty weapon at the suspect at 2407 Milam about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 11).

The suspect, Granville Joseph Sanford III (b/m, DOB: 8-6-71), is charged with burglary of a motor vehicle (a third-time offense) in the 185th State District Court.

The Harris County Precinct 7 deputy who discharged his duty weapon was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. McGray and Senior Police Officer S. Anderson reported:

A Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constable working an extra job saw Sanford burglarizing a vehicle at the above location.  The deputy gave Sanford repeated verbal commands, which Sanford ignored.  Sanford then ducked behind a vehicle while putting his hand into his left pocket.  Believing Sanford had a weapon and fearing for his own safety, the deputy discharged his duty weapon once, but missed Sanford.  He was then taken into custody without incident.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents within the city limits, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide Division.
