Investigation Into Male's Shooting at 5614 Hillcroft

October 18, 2010 - The shooting of a male at 5614 Hillcroft about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 17) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The wounded male, Juan Carlos Jimenez, 27, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Countryman and Officer J. Cornelius reported:

Jimenez and a friend were told to leave the business at the above address and were escorted outside. As Jimenez waited for an employee, he became impatient and retrieved an unknown object from his vehicle and tried to return to the entrance of the business. A male watching the parking lot saw Jimenez holding the object in his hand and running toward him. At that time, the male discharged a shot gun twice. Jimenez returned to his vehicle and another male, who had just heard the shots, saw an unknown object sticking out of Jimenez's back pocket. The second male saw Jimenez's hand near the unknown object and thought it was a gun. The male, believing Jimenez was about to pull out the object, began shooting at Jimenez, who was struck and entered the passenger side of his vehicle. A friend then drove Jimenez from the scene. The friend was later detained and questioned by officers.

The investigation is continuing.
