Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 3100 Southwest Freeway


October 22, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 3100 block of the Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 8:35 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 21).

The suspect, Nydia Veronica Alipaz (H/f, DOB: 4-24-77), is charged with interferring with a police investigation and filing a false police report in Harris County Criminal Court #15. Alipaz's photo is attached to this news release.

The male victim, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Wilson and Officer C. Tosso reported:

Alipaz was driving a blue Mercedes northbound in the 3100 block of the Southwest Freeway service road when she got into a verbal altercation with the victim, a pedestrian. The victim began running alongside the suspect's vehicle and was yelling at her when he was struck by the vehicle. The suspect interferred with the investigation and gave false information to officers on the scene. She was taken into custody and charged.
