Suspect Wounded, Charged in Incident at 10300 Broadstairs

October 26, 2010 - Charges are pending against a suspect wounded in an incident in which an HPD officer discharged his weapon in the 10300 block of Broadstairs about 2:45 a.m. today.

The suspect, Rogelio Rodriguez (H/m, DOB: 1-4-90), faces a burglary of a motor vehicle charge. Rodriguez drove himself to LBJ General Hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening wound to the neck.

Officer R.O. Carreon, who discharged his weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Carreon, assigned to the South Central Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in July 2006.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Cisneros and Officer W. Ferguson reported:

Rodriguez had burglarized a number of vehicles in the 10300 block of Broadstairs when he broke into Officer Carreon’s vehicle. Officer Carreon, who was off duty and asleep in his home at the time, walked outside and confronted Rodriguez. Fearing for his safety, Officer Carreon then fired his weapon at the suspect, striking him in the neck.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
