Suspect Arrested in Fatal Traffic at 3100 West Little York

October 27, 2010 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 3100 West Little York about 9 a.m. today.

The suspect, Brenda Gail Johnson (b/f, DOB: 6-28-60), faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter for her role in the death of a pedestrian, Theodore Jones, 31, of Houston. A second pedestrian, Mr. Jones' son, Seth Jones, 7 months, was transported to Texas Children's Hospital in stable condition with a possible broken arm.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G.T. Hall and Senior Police Officer D.L. Harwell reported:

Concerned citizens alerted an HPD patrol officer that a motorist (Johnson) was driving a white Chrysler 300 westbound on West Little York in an erratic manner. As the officer attempted to locate the vehicle, he observed it swerve off the roadway and strike two pedestrians at a bus stop. One of the pedestrians (Seth) was in a baby stroller. Johnson continued driving westbound, still weaving in and out of traffic. The officer then turned on his vehicle's overhead lights (not siren) and began to follow Johnson's vehicle when her vehicle left the roadway again, drove into a ditch, struck a culvert and flipped over onto the shoulder of the road. Her vehicle then struck the right side of a black Honda Accord whose driver was not injured. Johnson was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital in stable condition, released and transported to jail.

An investigation determined Johnson was intoxicated, possibly on prescription drugs. The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and has accepted a charge of intoxication manslaughter in this case.
