Suspect Arrested, Charged in Incident at 1100 East 11th Street

September 7, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in an aggravated assault on a police officer at 1100 East 11th Street about 1 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 4).

Alton Paul Alexander Jr. (b/m, DOB: 12-4-89) is charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and robbery in the 184th State District Court.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant D. Giannavola and Officer N. Wackman reported:

A Harris County Sheriff's deputy was working an extra job at a restaurant in the 1100 block of East 11th Street when he was flagged down on a robbery in-progress in which a suspect had stolen a man's car in the restaurant's parking lot.  As the deputy moved to apprehend the suspect, the suspect attempted to strike him with the stolen vehicle.  Fearing for his safety, the deputy fired his weapon one time at the vehicle, but did not strike the suspect, who fled the scene.  The suspect refused to stop for responding HPD patrol units who later apprehended the suspect following a pursuit.

The sheriff's deputy was not injured.

The suspect was identified as Alexander.  He subsequently confessed to his role in the robbery.

The investigation is continuing.  Investigators are asking for the public's assistance in identifying two other male suspects seen earlier with Alexander.  The suspects are described only as black males in their late teens to early 20s.  Anyone with such information is urged to contact the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
