Fatal Traffic Accident at 7900 South Freeway


April 20, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 7900 South Freeway (State Highway 288) about 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday (April 19).

The male victim, 40, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Sorge and Senior Police Officer J. Gaona reported:

The victim was driving a green Ford F-150 pickup truck that stalled out in the southbound lanes of the South Freeway exit ramp to the 610 South Loop (South Interstate Highway 610). The victim got out of his truck, raised the hood and stood in front of the vehicle. At that time, the driver of a white Hyundai Santa Fe then struck the rear of the Ford. The victim was struck and taken to the hospital where he later died. Two other persons inside the Ford truck suffered minor injuries.

There are no indications alcohol was a factor at this time. The investigation is continuing.
