HPD’s “Blue Crew” and Volunteers Give Kids Back to School Look

August 23, 2011 - Some area children headed back to school this week sporting a new look thanks to the efforts of the Houston Police Department's Community Outreach Unit, also known as the "Blue Crew," and about 30 volunteers.

The barbers and stylists donated their time and talent to giving the children haircuts and styling services as part of the third annual "Look Good, Feel Good" event. Photos of the event are attached to this news release.

Children received their new looks on Sunday (Aug. 21) at the Fort Bend Boys and Girls Club of Houston, the Star of Hope: Transitional Living Center, and the Houston Area Women's Center.

"These children have experienced so much hardship in their young lives," said HPD Officer E.J. Joseph. "A new look enhances their self-esteem, makes them feel more confident, and gets them excited about preparing and going back to school," she added.

Supplies and services were donated by Kroger, Pepsi Bottling Group, Envy Beauty Supply at 9525 Southwest Freeway, Style Right at 11883 Bissonnet, K1 Salon at 11980 Westheimer and Hair Stop at 8950 Will Clayton Parkway.
