Investigation into Male's Death at 61 Riesner

December 5, 2011 - Houston police are investigating the death of a male found unresponsive at 61 Riesner Street about 5:50 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 4).


The male, Deltric Deon Caldwell (b/m, DOB: 2-24-72), of Houston, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine his cause of death.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Burton and Officer M. Brady reported:

Mr. Caldwell was arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday (Dec. 4) in the parking lot of a strip center for possession of narcotics and tampering with evidence. Caldwell was medically screened by HFD paramedics, transported to HPD Central Jail at the above location and later became unresponsive. HFD paramedics were called to the scene and took Caldwell to the hospital.

The incident is being investigated as an in-custody death since it occurred in the presence of HPD personnel. As is customary in such cases, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
