HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Officer M. Khan reported:

The victim, a security guard at the Rockport Apartments at the above location, advised the suspect and his friends they were playing music too loudly on the property. The guard passed by the suspect and his friends' location several times and warned them of the noise volume, which the suspect ignored. The guard and suspect then got into an argument in the parking lot. A witness approached the two men and attempted to resolve the issue. At that time, the suspect and guard pulled out guns. The guard fired one time, striking the witness in the arm. The suspect then fired several shots at the guard, who died at the scene inside his vehicle. The suspect fled on foot. The witness drove himself to an area hospital and was treated for a minor wound.

Witnesses described the suspect only as a Hispanic male in his mid 20s to early 30s.
