Fatal Traffic Accident at 5500 Almeda Genoa

February 15, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 5500 block of Almeda Genoa about 5 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 14).


The female victim, 59. was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Senior Police Officer P. Gonzalez reported:

The victim, driving a white Ford Taurus, was southbound in the 12900 block of Martindale and waiting at a stop sign at the intersection of Almeda Genoa. The victim then turned left in front of a white Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Luis Gerardo Martinez, causing him to strike the Taurus. The driver of the Taurus died at the scene.

While it was determined Martinez (H/m, DOB: 11-2-85) was not at fault for the accident, he was found to be intoxicated and had two child passengers, who were not injured, at the time of the accident. He faces a charge of felony driving while intoxicated and remains in custody.

The investigation is continuing.
