Fatal Traffic Accident at 5200 Katy Freeway


July 5, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 5200 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) service road about 2:10 a.m. on Sunday (July 3).

The identities of the two deceased male victims are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer E. Morgado reported:

The two victims were in a gold Chevrolet pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed in the eastbound lanes of the Katy Freeway.  The truck veered across two lanes, the right shoulder and then up into a grassy area surrounding an entrance ramp from the feeder road near Reinerman Street.  The pickup continued to the other side of the entrance ramp, rolled into the grass again and came to rest on the eastbound feeder road mainlanes near Roy Street.

Both victims were ejected from the truck.  One died at the scene and the other was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
