Investigation into Shooting at 8800 Curry

June 10, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a shooting in which suspects fired a weapon at a Houston police officer at 8800 Curry about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday (June 7).

Officer J. Greenhaw, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Greenhaw was sworn in as an officer in September 2009 and is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and Senior Police Officer M. Waters reported:

Officer Greenhaw responded to a report of a suspicious persons call at Curry and Berry Road and located three males matching the description of the persons reported in the call. When Officer Greenhaw confronted the males, they began to run south on Curry Road. Officer Greenhaw ordered the males to stop. At that time, one suspect turned, lifted his shirt, removed a pistol and fired at least one time at the officer. The officer then exited his vehicle and began to pursue the suspects on foot. Another suspect discharged a weapon at the officer and Officer Greenhaw returned fire. The officer continued to pursue the suspects until it was no longer safe to do so.

Three juveniles were later detained and charged in an unrelated incident. At this time, no one has been found to be injured in the shooting.

As is customary in all officer-involved shootings in the Houston city limits, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
