Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 14833 Katy Freeway #138

June 15, 2011 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a child at 14833 Katy Freeway about 10 a.m. Tuesday (June 14).

The male victim, 5, suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Senior Police Officer K. Carr reported:

Two brothers, a 7-year-old and the 5-year-old victim, were left unattended in a motel room at the above address. While their father was in the front office, the seven-year-old gained access to a firearm and shot his brother.

The investigation is continuing. HPD homicide investigators will confer with the Harris County District Attorney's Office once the investigation is complete.
