Update: Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 9200 Boone

June 17, 2011 - Houston police have learned the identity of a man found fatally shot in the 9200 block of Boone Road about 6:50 a.m. on May 13.

The victim is identified as Joel Sanchez Carrizalez, 43, of Houston. Mr. Carrizalez suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Photos of Mr. Carrizalez, as well as the vehicle in which he was found, are attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. L. Meeler and Officer J. L. French reported:

Mr. Carrizalez was found in the driver's side of his pickup truck parked in the center of the teacher's parking lot of Olle Middle School at the above location. A preliminary investigation determined Carrizalez's wallet and keys to the vehicle were stolen.

Further investigation has determined that earlier that evening, Carrizalez had been in the parking lot of his apartment complex at 9290 Woodfair drinking beer with several friends. The men then went to the El Castillo Bar at 10320 Club Creek Drive. Carrizalez was last seen leaving the bar about 4:45 a.m. Investigators believe Carrizalez picked up a passenger in the area of Bissonnet between Woodfair and Wilcrest.

At this time, the motive in his shooting death appears to be robbery.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
