Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 1700 State Highway 6


March 3, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 1700 block of South State Highway 6 about 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday (March 2).

The suspect, Carlton Jay Eberle (w/m, DOB: 3-5-84), is charged with accident involving injury in the 337th State District Court.  Eberle also faces a charge of driving while intoxicated.  A photo of Eberle is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 53, who was pronounced dead at the scene, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Senior Police Officer S. Johnson reported:

The victim was crossing the street in the 1700 block of State Highway 6 when he was struck by a red Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by Eberle, southbound on Highway 6.   Eberle then fled the scene on foot and was later taken into custody by HPD Westside Patrol Division officers in a nearby neighborhood .  According to witnesses, Eberle, who was found to be intoxicated, was driving erratically prior to the accident.
