Fatal Traffic Accident at 1200 Stone Hollow

March 3, 2011 - A suspect has been charged in a 2009 burglary case due to DNA evidence he left behind at the scene of the crime.

Germoine Khalid Shakir (b/m, DOB: 9-14-70) is charged with burglary of a building in the 177th State District Court.  A photo of the suspect is attached to this news release.

HPD Burglary and Theft Division Officer C.A. Cave reported:

On October 23, 2009, a burglary occured at a grocery store at 7222 Scott.  While conducting a follow-up investigation, Officer Cave was able to obtain blood evidence at the scene where the suspect made entry into the business.  The blood evidence was submitted for analysis at that time.

The evidence was processed and entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) for a possible match.  In January 2011, that match was made.  The Texas Department of Public Safety contacted Officer Cave and noted the blood evidence recovered at the burglary scene had been examined and identified Shakir.

Shakir was incarcerated in the Texas Department of Corrections (TDC) for a separate burglary of a business on April 21, 2010.  That business was also located in the same area of southeast Houston near the burglary case on Scott Street.

On February 14, 2011, after serving his time for the April burglary, Shakir was transferred from TDC to the Harris County Jail to face charges in the October 2009 incident.
