Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 6900 Gulf Freeway


March 14, 2011 - Houston police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a motorist involved in a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 6900 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 12:25 a.m. today (March 14).

The male victim, in his late 20s to early 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Usher and Officer D. Brown reported:

The victim attempted to cross the Gulf Freeway on his bicycle when he struck the left passenger side of a white Dodge 3500 pickup truck.  The victim was knocked off the bicycle and was then struck by a white Ford Explorer.  A witness who saw the accident followed the Explorer until the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.  The driver of the Dodge was not injured in this incident.

The driver of the Explorer is described only as a Hispanic male, 25 years of age.
