Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 300 East Loop South


May 16, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 300 block of the East Loop South (East Interstate Highway 610 South) about 1:20 a.m. on Saturday (May 14).

The female victim, 25, of Houston was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer M. Rios reported:

The drivers of a blue Infiniti G35 and a black Chevrolet Impala were traveling southbound on the East Loop South when the driver of the Infiniti failed to control his speed and struck the Impala from the rear.  Both vehicles then struck the middle concrete barrier, causing the Impala to catch fire.  The Impala's female passenger died at the scene and the Impala's driver was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Infiniti fled on foot and remains at large.
